Job summary

Idaho Power Company is seeking a Control Equipment Technician I or II in Boise to support grid monitoring and control systems. The role combines power systems, automation, networking, and cybersecurity to design, configure, install, and maintain SCADA and substation equipment.

Qualifications

What does a Control Equipment Technician I or II do for us? The Control Equipment Technician I or II supports the technology that monitors and controls the grid across Idaho Power’s service territory by combining power systems, automation, communications, networking, and cybersecurity. The role designs, configures, integrates, installs, commissions, troubleshoots, maintains, and calibrates a wide variety of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and substation intelligent electronic equipment. The technician develops and maintains the systems and interfaces that provide critical data, monitoring, alarm annunciation, and control capabilities to system operators. Additionally, the role supports the design, installation, and maintenance of operational technology and data center infrastructure, enhancing grid reliability, enabling modernization initiatives, and ensuring compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards and documentation requirements.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE Knowledge of:

• Electricity and electronics
• Applied mathematics
• Computer operating systems (Windows and Linux fundamentals)

• Computer networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP networking concepts

• Analyzing data, alarms, and system performance trends
• Managing technical documentation and system records undefined
• Reading and interpreting substation schematics and wiring diagrams

Ability to:

• Use hand and power tools, test equipment, and diagnostic instruments

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Control Equipment Technician I

• Education: Associate’s degree in electronics, electrical controls, or electrical-related discipline OR An equivalent combination of relevant training, education, and experience
• Experience: 2 years of experience working with electronic devices or experience in a related IT field Preferred: 2 years of experience programming microcontrollers and/or PLCs (programmable logic controller), and/or computer networking Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position Must obtain First Aid / CPR card within 90 days

Control Equipment Technician II

• Education: Associate’s degree in electronics, electrical controls, or electrical-related discipline OR An equivalent combination of relevant training, education, and experience
• Experience: 5 years of experience working with electronic devices or experience in a related IT field Preferred: 5 years of experience programming microcontrollers and/or PLCs (programmable logic controller), and/or computer networking Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position Must obtain First Aid / CPR card within 90 days
