Job summary

Zobele by kdc/one in Garland, Texas, is seeking a Controls Engineer to manage high-speed making and packaging lines with a focus on automation, PLC and HMI programming, and on-site startup and support.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5+ years in industrial automation, with OSHA compliance and strong hardware/software skills across Rockwell, Wonderware, Ignition, and FactoryTalk environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent automation experience.
• 5+ years of experience with Industrial Automation.
• OSHA competency.
• PLC/HMI programming with RS Studio 5000/ControlLogix and corresponding SCADA tools.
• Drives/VFDs including PowerFlex and Kinetix Servo Drives.
• Networks (Ethernet, DLR, CISCO switches).
• Software/Database knowledge: C++, C#, .NET, Java, SQL, Oracle.
• Good analytical skills and team-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot PLC and HMI on four lines; collaborate with engineers to improve existing lines.
• Provide instruction and guidance to less experienced technical staff.
• Assist in designing control systems (I/O, motor lists, P&ID).
• Create functional requirements specs with FAT and SAT plans.
• Perform on-site startup, commissioning, validation and support.
• Identify changes in scope and notify Project/Engineering Manager promptly.
• Develop approaches to solve problems and meet customer needs.
• Contribute technical competence and effective communication within the team.
• Assist in managing project resources, schedule, budget and scope.

CONTROLS ENGINEER - INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION

Reporting to the plant Preventive Maintenance Superintendent, our Controls Engineer manages high speed making and packaging lines with a focus on automation; PLC and HMI Programming and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities:

• Troubleshoot current process PLC program and HMI on 4 existing lines; collaborate with other Controls Engineers and Process Engineers to accomplish improvements to the existing lines
• Provide instruction and guidance to less experienced technical employees
• Assist in the design of control systems (I/O and Motor Lists, P&ID’s etc.)
• Create functional requirements specification documents with the corresponding FAT and SAT plans
• Perform on-site startup, commissioning, validate and support
• Identify changes in scope and notify Project/Engineering Manager in a timely manner
• Develop approaches to solve problems, handle customer demands, changes and complaints
• Contribute a broad technical competence to the team, along with superior communication, correspondence, and mediation skills
• Assist in managing project’s resources, schedule, budget and scope
• Provides input and resolves issues during the Estimating and Fabrication processes
• Manage and develop project deliverables independently or within a team.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent automation experience
• 5 + years of experience with Industrial Automation
• OSHA
• PLC/HMI (RS Studio 5000/ControlLogix; Wonderware Intouch and ArchestrA System Platform; Inductive Automation Ignition; Factory Talk ME/PanelView and SE)
• Drives/VFDs (Power Flex and Kinetix Servo Drives)
• Networks (Ethernet, DLR, CISCO Switches)
• Software/Database (C++; C#, NET, Java, SQL and Oracle)
