Job summary

Northern Trust is seeking a seasoned Business Operational Resilience professional to join a 1LOD Risk team as the primary resiliency partner for an assigned portfolio. You will collaborate across Business, Technology, Operations, Compliance and Risk to strengthen critical services and regulatory readiness.

The role emphasizes governance, testing, evidence collection, and executive reporting, with exposure to external vendor oversight and remediation activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in financial services supporting First Line Risk, Operational Resiliency, Operational Risk, Technology Risk, Business Continuity, Third Party Risk, Enterprise Risk, Regulatory Risk, or related disciplines.
  • Experience working within a First Line of Defense (1LOD) risk or business-aligned control function.
  • Experience supporting regulatory examinations, remediation, internal audits, governance activities, or executive reporting.
  • Knowledge of Operational Resiliency principles, governance, testing, issue management, and financial services regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Operational Resiliency partner for assigned business lines and critical business services.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to identify resilience risks, implement mitigation strategies, and strengthen recovery capabilities.
  • Coordinate resiliency assessments, annual self-assessments, governance activities, and business resiliency deliverables in alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Maintain resiliency documentation, recovery strategies, impact tolerances, critical dependencies, and supporting evidence.
  • Support regulatory readiness, internal audits, independent reviews, governance reporting, and remediation activities.
  • Coordinate oversight activities for External Critical Vendors, including resilience assessments, contingency planning, exit strategy reviews, testing, and remediation tracking.
  • Support operational resiliency scenario testing, tabletop exercises, simulation events, and recovery validation activities.
  • Track observations, lessons learned, action plans, milestones, and supporting evidence through completion.
  • Provide effective challenge and guidance to ensure resiliency considerations are embedded in strategic initiatives, material business changes, and risk discussions.
  • Build trusted partnerships across Business, Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, and Third Party Risk Management.
  • Communicate program progress, emerging risks, key milestones, and issues to stakeholders.

Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Business Operational Resilience professional to join a First Line of Defense (1LOD) Risk team supporting the operational resilience of a global financial institution. In this business‑aligned role, you will serve as the primary resiliency partner for an assigned business portfolio, working across Business, Technology, Operations, Enterprise Operational Resiliency, Third Party Risk Management, Compliance, and Enterprise Risk to strengthen critical business services and support regulatory readiness.

Major Duties
  • Serve as the primary Operational Resiliency partner for assigned business lines and critical business services.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to identify resilience risks, implement mitigation strategies, and strengthen recovery capabilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience working within a First Line of Defense (1LOD) risk or business‑aligned control function.
  • Experience supporting regulatory examinations, remediation, internal audits, governance activities, or executive reporting.
  • Knowledge of Operational Resiliency principles, governance, testing, issue management, and financial services regulatory expectations.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority and support cross‑functional initiatives in a matrixed organization.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, project management, problem‑solving, written communication, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting business‑aligned Operational Resiliency programs within a global financial institution.
  • Experience with critical business services, resiliency testing, scenario exercises, business continuity planning, or External Critical Vendor oversight.
  • Experience preparing executive‑level reporting, committee materials, or regulatory documentation.
  • Professional certifications such as CBCP, MBCI, PMP, CRISC, CISA, or similar are preferred.
Salary Range

$83,100 - 141,300 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well‑being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
