Job summary

King County is seeking a Contract Specialist 1 to support the Goods and Services team in procurement, scope development, and contract negotiations. The role emphasizes collaboration with clients and internal staff to deliver compliant, high‑quality contracts.

You will help with post‑award documentation, ensure adherence to policies, and contribute to continuous improvement within a hybrid work model. Washington residency is required when applicable.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of competitive procurement solicitations, contracting and vendor management.
• Understanding of contract law, regulations, procurement methods and best practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
• Strong communication, interpersonal, writing and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and manage multi-step procurement processes including bidding requirements and general terms.
• Develop scope of work and technical specifications with clients.
• Prepare contract terms and conditions for execution and ensure policy compliance.
• Hold evaluation meetings and debriefs with consultants and County staff.
• Facilitate contract negotiations between County agencies and suppliers.
• Support post-award documentation and update standard procurement documents.
• Assist with strategic initiatives in sourcing and supplier performance.
