Job summary

US Tech Solutions in Gary, IN is seeking a Project Controls professional for an 18-month contract to support cost control across capital projects. Responsibilities include maintaining cost databases, tracking budgets and commitments, forecasting cash flow, and supporting change management with a focus on accuracy, variance analysis, and robust reporting using Excel and related tools.

Experience with Primavera P6, SAP, or Oracle is a plus; an associate degree or higher with on-the-job capital

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Business, Accounting, Finance or related field. Four-year degree not required.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and change management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables and cost tracking workbooks.
• Familiarity with capital project processes and terminology (AFEs, POs, stage gates).

Responsibilities

• Maintain project cost databases, budget logs, and control accounts across assigned capital projects.
• Track actual expenditures against approved budgets; prepare periodic variance reports with explanations for cost deviations.
• Support preparation of cost status reports for Project Managers and the Project Controls Manager.
• Flag emerging cost trends, anomalies, and budget risks for timely escalation.
• Maintain commitment logs tracking purchase orders, subcontracts, and authorizations for expenditure across projects.
• Process and reconcile vendor invoices against PO commitments; coordinate with procurement and accounts payable to resolve discrepancies.
• Assist in developing and maintaining monthly cash flow forecasts by project.
• Support change order cost documentation and ensuring cost impacts are reflected in budgets.
• Prepare routine project cost reports, dashboards, and summaries using Excel and other tools.
• Support evaluation and adoption of AI-enabled tools for cost control functions.
