Cherry Bekaert Recruiting is seeking an experienced Controller / Director of Finance for a contract engagement with a nonprofit organization. The role provides hands-on accounting leadership, overseeing month-end close, supporting the annual audit, and helping improve processes, budgeting, and forecasting.

Responsibilities include coordinating audits, ensuring accurate financial reporting, leading budgeting cycles, and partnering with leadership on financial matters.

Qualifications

• Nonprofit accounting experience required.
• Significant experience in a Controller, Director of Finance, or similar senior accounting/finance role.
• Strong knowledge of month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general accounting.
• Experience leading or supporting financial statement audits.
• Hands-on experience with budgeting and forecasting.
• Demonstrated ability to assess accounting processes and implement process improvements.
• NetSuite experience a plus.
• CPA preferred, but not required.
• Public accounting experience preferred, but not required.

Responsabilités

• Oversee and support the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Provide overall accounting and finance oversight.
• Review accounting activity, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements as needed.
• Coordinate and provide support for the annual audit, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, stronger controls, and increased efficiency within the accounting function.
• Lead and support the budgeting and forecasting process.
• Monitor financial results and assist with budget-to-actual analysis.
• Partner with organizational leadership on financial reporting and accounting matters.
• Provide hands-on support to the accounting team and help address issues that arise during the contract engagement.
