Mob Entertainment is a startup multimedia studio that is best known for our hit indie horror game "Poppy Playtime". This franchise is one of the hottest new properties in gaming, and our team is naturally expanding as our ambition expands. To give a taste of our brand's popularity, more than 100 billion YouTube views of Poppy Playtime related content have occured since the game's launch 4 years ago.

Job Overview:

Mob Entertainment is looking for a talented Mid-Level Pixel 2D Artist to join our team. In this role, you’ll create high-quality pixel art assets, animations, sprites, and tilemaps that bring our unique characters and environments to life. You’ll work from concept art, translating it into clear, engaging pixel art while ensuring stylistic consistency. This position requires experience in Unreal Engine, specifically with the Paper2D and PaperZD plugins, to implement flipbook animations, tilemaps, and sprites in-game. You’ll collaborate closely with designers and animators to ensure assets integrate seamlessly and elevate the overall game experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Create high-quality pixel art assets, including characters, environments, objects, and tilemaps, that are stylistically aligned with the game’s visual direction.
  • Develop tilemaps and tile sets for environments, ensuring consistency and readability in each game area.
  • Translate concept art into readable, in-style pixel art assets, capturing the essence of the original designs.
  • Design and animate flipbook animations and sprites using Unreal Engine’s Paper2D and PaperZD plugins.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, animators, and other artists to ensure assets are visually cohesive and optimized for real-time performance.
  • Ensure all art assets are technically sound and game-ready, with a focus on performance optimization.
  • Respond to feedback from the art director and team members, iterating on designs as needed to maintain quality standards.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in pixel art creation, including a portfolio showcasing high-quality pixel art, animations, and tilemaps.
  • Strong skills in 2D pixel art animation, with experience creating engaging flipbook animations, tilemaps, and sprite sheets.
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine, specifically with Paper2D and PaperZD plugins.
  • Ability to work with concept art and translate it into readable, stylized pixel art, including characters, environments, and tiles.
  • Familiarity with implementing and optimizing pixel art assets, animations, and tilemaps in Unreal Engine.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team, adapting assets based on feedback.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience creating assets for action, adventure, or platformer games.
  • Strong understanding of pixel readability, color theory, and design fundamentals specific to pixel art and tilemaps.
  • Familiarity with game-ready art production pipelines, including optimization techniques for real-time applications.
  • Knowledge of additional tools or plugins for Unreal Engine that enhance 2D workflows and pixel art.

Application Requirements:

  • Portfolio demonstrating pixel art, animations, and tilemap work, including examples of flipbook animations and sprite sheets.
  • Brief cover letter explaining your experience with Unreal Engine’s Paper2D and PaperZD plugins, as well as your interest in Mob Entertainment’s projects.
