Job summary

San Diego Mesa College in the Kearny Mesa community seeks an Assistant Professor of Mathematics for a 10-month, 1.0 FTE contract beginning January 2027. The position mainly supports upper-level STEM mathematics courses, with day, evening, and possibly off-campus classes.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of math courses, integrate effective pedagogical methods focused on equity and excellence, supervise students, maintain office hours, advise, and participate in curriculum

Qualifications

• Master’s in mathematics or applied mathematics, OR
• Bachelor’s in either of the above AND Master’s in statistics, physics or mathematics education OR
• the equivalent
• Graduate credit coursework in pure or applied mathematics.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching mathematics courses for STEM majors at a community college.
• Ability to integrate learning theory, active learning, and equity-focused pedagogy.

Responsibilities

• Teach a variety of math courses with emphasis on STEM calculus.
• Integrate effective pedagogical methods focused on equity and excellence.
• Supervise and instruct students, maintain office hours, advise and counsel.
• Participate in curriculum development and departmental leadership.
