Job summary

Butler Snow is seeking contract attorneys to join its litigation team in the Charleston, SC area. The role focuses on insurance coverage disputes and complex personal injury litigation, on a flexible, independent contractor (1099) basis.

Qualifications

Job description

We are currently looking to add Contract Attorneys to our litigation team in Charleston, SC.

Seeking a skilled and dependable contract litigation attorney to provide support on an active docket of matters focused primarily on insurance coverage disputes and complex personal injury litigation.

This is a flexible, independent contractor (1099) position offering the opportunity to perform substantive litigation work while maintaining flexibility in schedule and workload. Candidates located in or near Charleston, South Carolina are preferred.

The attorney will work with experienced litigators and handle responsibilities consistent with associate-level litigation practice, including:

• Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation filings
• Conducting legal research and analysis
• Preparing and responding to written discovery
• Reviewing and analyzing documents and case materials
• Preparing for and taking or defending depositions
• Assisting with hearings, mediations, and case strategy
• Supporting attorneys in trial preparation and, as appropriate, at trial

The ideal candidate will have excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills; strong attention to detail; and the ability to manage assignments independently, efficiently, and reliably.

South Carolina licensure is preferred and may be required depending on the nature of the assignments.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Position Type: Independent Contractor / 1099

Schedule: Flexible; hours will vary based on workload and availability

Location: Charleston, SC area preferred

This position may be particularly well suited for an attorney seeking meaningful litigation work with greater flexibility than a traditional full-time associate role.
