Job summary

Machinists Institute in Seattle, WA and Vancouver, WA seeks an Industrial Machinery Technician instructor (contract). The role focuses on delivering hands-on training to apprentices and career students, leveraging extensive industry experience and a commitment to skilled trade education.

Experience in diesel and marine engines is essential. The instructor will develop curriculum, oversee classroom activities, and ensure safe lab environments while mentoring learners toward professional skills

Qualifications

• Minimum five years hands-on experience in an industrial or shop environment.
• At least two years of leadership experience in a supervisory, lead, or foreman role.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, marine engines, electronics, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Experience with tool usage, safety practices, and shop operations.
• Experience in teaching, training, or mentoring students preferred; instructor training provided if needed.
• Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (preferably CANVAS).
• Understanding of apprenticeship programs, with preference for candidates who have completed or participated in one.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on instruction in diesel engines, marine engines, electrical theory, troubleshooting, electronics, and tool usage.
• Develop and deliver engaging curriculum aligned with apprenticeship program requirements.
• Support student learning by providing demonstrations, guided practice, and real-world problem-solving opportunities.
• Maintain instructional equipment, tools, and lab environments to ensure safe and effective training conditions.
• Use a Learning Management System to manage class materials, assignments, and student progress.
• Mentor, coach, and guide apprentices to build technical and professional workplace skills.
• Collaborate with program leadership to ensure curriculum aligns with industry standards and employer needs.
