Job summary

State Employees' Credit Union (SECU) is seeking a Staff Counsel I – Contracts to review, draft, and negotiate SECU contracts and related documents. This role will work closely with the Contracts team and senior attorneys to implement standardized guidelines and improve risk management across vendor relationships.

The position requires a J.D. degree, NC Bar admission or eligibility within one year, and at least one year of legal experience.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school is required.
• Admission to North Carolina Bar or eligibility for admission within one year of employment.
• Experience in a law firm or corporate legal department is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review, draft, and negotiate SECU contracts to optimize SECU's position.
• Develop and implement contract review guidelines and procedures.
• Provide practical legal advice to business units to facilitate risk management.
• Liaise with outside counsel on transactional matters.
• Stay updated on legal developments impacting SECU's commercial agreements.
