Job summary

State Employees' Credit Union (SECU) is seeking a Compliance Counsel II to join Risk Management, ensuring regulatory compliance across state and federal laws for member services and operations.

You will conduct regulatory reviews, handle complaint reviews, vendor due diligence, monitor changes, and collaborate across departments while mentoring teammates and supporting audits and examinations.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school; North Carolina license or ability to obtain.
• 2–5 years of progressive in-house compliance experience at a bank/credit union or law firm serving financial institutions.
• Knowledge of state and federal laws affecting credit unions and banks (NCUA, CFPB) including TILA, RESPA, HMDA, FCRA, FDCPA, SCRA, SAFE Act, ECOA, TISA, Reg CC, EFTA, ESIGN, UDAAP.

Responsibilities

• Regulatory Compliance Reviews and Research: review materials to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Regulatory Compliance Complaint Reviews: assess and revise responses to complaints with compliance concerns.
• Vendor Reviews: conduct risk-based reviews of vendor relationships and advise due diligence needs.
• Regulatory Change Management: monitor regulatory changes and summarize impacts for the organization.
• Interdepartmental and Cross-Team Collaboration: mentor teammates and share legal expertise across teams.
• Audit and Examination Assistance: support audits and exams as needed.
