Job summary

McKinley Paper & Packaging is seeking a dedicated Continuous Improvement Engineer to join our team and optimize pulp and paper manufacturing processes. The CIE will lead cross-functional improvement initiatives, drive operational excellence, and support best-practice development to reduce waste and costs.

Job description

McKinley Paper & Packaging is seeking a dedicated Continuous Improvement Engineer (CIE) to join our team focused on optimizing pulp and paper manufacturing processes. This role is integral to driving operational excellence by increasing efficiency, reducing waste, and lowering costs across our facilities. The CIE will collaborate with cross-functional teams, lead process improvement initiatives, and support the ongoing development of best practices. Responsibilities
  • Analyze and optimize pulp and paper manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
  • Lead and implement continuous improvement projects within assigned areas.
  • Deliver training, coaching, and mentoring on continuous improvement methodologies across all company locations to foster knowledge sharing and professional growth.
  • Identify and resolve equipment or process issues, including machinery and chemical processes.
  • Monitor production data to ensure products meet established specifications and quality standards.
  • Assist with daily troubleshooting of production problems from process, technical, and systems perspectives.
  • Collaborate with engineering, technical, and process control teams to design and recommend new equipment and processes.
  • Analyze key performance metrics (KPIs) to identify trends and opportunities for process improvement; develop visual communication tools, reports, and dashboards to communicate results.
  • Set, adjust, and maintain production standards and process control specifications and instructions.
  • Collect and analyze data using sound statistical methods to support process improvements and trial evaluations.
  • Respond to departmental requests for changes in systems or equipment to achieve desired results safely and cost-effectively.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers within the operating area.
  • Demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality in daily activities and long-term projects.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with SAP is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ParcView, Pi, or Panther systems is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with statistical data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and drive process improvements.
