Job summary

James Hardie Building Products Inc. seeks a Continuous Improvement Engineer to drive Lean and Six Sigma initiatives in our Sparks, NV manufacturing environment.

You will identify waste, improve quality, and reduce costs through data analysis, Kaizen events, and staff mentoring. Responsibilities include value stream mapping, 5S, root-cause analysis, and supporting capital projects, with collaboration across plant teams to sustain gains and ensure safe, efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Process, Mechatronics, or Mechanical) required.
  • 1+ years of experience as Continuous Improvement Engineer or Process Engineer.
  • Experience in a continuous manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in process automation deployment desirable.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process improvement projects with plant CIMS network.
  • Identify performance gaps in yield, uptime, speed, and quality.
  • Benchmark processes against best-in-class systems.
  • Improve process capability through instrumentation, automation, and error-proofing.
  • Track progress and communicate results to stakeholders.

A CIMS Engineer enhances manufacturing and operational efficiency by identifying waste, improving quality, and reducing costs through Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. They analyze data, lead Kaizen events, and mentor staff to foster a culture of sustainable change and efficiency. Common tasks include value stream mapping, 5S implementation, and root cause analysis.

What You’ll Do:
Process Improvement Projects
  • Partner with plant CIMS network in quality, efficiency, and RTY improvement projects
  • Identify performance gaps in yield, uptime, speed, and quality, and drive projects to close these gaps.
  • Benchmark existing processes against best-in-class systems, both internal and external to the business
  • Improve process capability through better operational processes, instrumentation, automation, and error-proofing techniques.
  • Track progress on key process measurements and communicate to stakeholders
Capital Projects
  • Manage small and medium scale Capital projects that enable process improvement work streams
  • Perform project financial analysis and justification
  • Deliver all technical tasks to comply with quality, safety, and project management best practices
  • Execute projects on time, within scope and budget
  • Provide engineering support including design and constructability reviews and commissioning assistance on large scale Capital Projects
Plant Process Audit Program
  • Partner with plant Quality Manager, plant Engineers, and operators in plant process audits
  • Support plants in improvement projects identified through the audit process
  • Support process audits as triggered by quality incident investigations

  • Process Simulations and calculations with equipment sizing
  • Pump and Pipe pressure drop calculations and sizing
  • Dynamic simulations
  • Knowledge in continuous improvement projects
  • Knowledge in project management and execution
  • Knowledge in process commissioning
Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Process, Mechatronics, or Mechanical)
  • 1+ years of experience Continuous Improvement Engineer, Process Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer
  • Experience working in a continuous manufacturing environment; thorough understanding of manufacturing processes and procedures
  • Experience in raw materials and raw material processing
  • Experience in design or deployment of process automation to support improvements in efficiency and effectiveness is desirable
  • Experience in laboratory and in process testing
  • Involvement in change initiatives and projects
  • Experience in 6 Sigma/Lean continuous improvement environment using key tools and frameworks and successfully rolling them out across manufacturing environments
What You’ll Receive:

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position is $80k to $95k. Placement in the range depends on several factors such as experience, skills, geography and internal equity and may change over time. This position qualifies for benefits and you will be eligible to participate in a bonus plan.
