Job summary

James Hardie is seeking a Process Engineer in the Pre A/C Department to advance manufacturing efficiency and manage small capital projects. You will analyze waste, speed, and delays, develop plans to reduce scrap and improve yields, and create process maps for each machine to identify bottlenecks.

The role drives safety and quality as you monitor lab results, participate in quality audits, and coordinate across plants.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (mechanical, chemical, industrial, paper science).
  • 1 year of manufacturing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Understand waste, speed, and delay design for each product on each machine and meet or exceed design goals.
  • Develop and implement plans that reduce scrap, improve paint yield, and laminate yield.
  • Create and update process maps for each machine to identify and remove bottlenecks.
  • Identify delays and develop plans to close gaps; drive cross‑department collaboration.
  • Communicate on the production floor to ensure continuous improvement; share best practices with other plants.
  • Support the plant safety program and participate in safety audits.

Summary

As a member of the Pre A/C Department reporting to the Department Manager, the Process Engineer is responsible for improving the efficiency of the manufacturing process and managing small capital projects.

What You’ll Do

Understand the waste, speed, and delay design for each product on each machine, then meets or exceeds design by (70%):

  • Developing and implementing plans that reduces scrap, improves paint yield, and improves laminate yield;
  • Creating and updating process maps for each machine; i.e. identifying and removing bottle necks in process;
  • Identifying all delay and developing and implementing plans that close the delay gaps;
  • Driving collaboration between respective departments that ensures all issues are addressed and resolved;
  • Communicating on the production floor with all associated operators to ensure continuous improvement in the manufacturing process; and
  • Networking with other Process engineers in all plants to freely share best practices.

Routinely verifies conformance of material being produced to meet or exceed the quality standard by: (10%)

  • Monitoring lab results; and
  • Participating in quality audits and meetings.

Actively leads and supports the plant safety program by: (10%)

  • Identifying and reducing hazards related to plant equipment;
  • Monitoring and addressing safety conditions and behaviors; and
  • Participating in safety audits.

Develops and manages capital projects by: (10%)

  • Identifying improvement opportunities;
  • Organizing teams to help in research efforts;
  • Writing Capital Expenditure Requests (CER); and
  • Coordinating and implementing projects.

What You’ll Receive

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position is $80 to $95k. Placement in the range depends on several factors such as experience, skills, geography and internal equity and may change over time. This position qualifies for benefits and you will be eligible to participate in a bonus plan.
