Position Description

Ata Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Continuous Improvement Engineer to join the Data Center Power & Control Division in Canonsburg, PA. This position is responsible for supporting the lean transformation and daily management initiatives by ensuring strategies are implemented, and principles/practices/tools are incorporated into the culture and processes under transformation. This position implements and supports actions that bring about improvements which may include, but are not limited to safety, customer value proposition, quality, delivery, cycle, growth, margin expansion, and inventory.

What Will You Do?

To support the organization in implementing lean transformation and daily management across the facility including:

  1. Implementing tactical strategies to achieve the desired vision.
  2. Executing against long and short-term objectives to support the Plant’s KPIs and goals.
  3. Working with necessary site personnel to identify, address, and eliminate process-related obstacles.
  4. Assisting in the change systems/processes as required, to support the lean initiatives.
  5. Utilize value stream mapping techniques to design optimal information, material, and flow methodology.
  6. Support engineered labor standards development via MOST and associated maintenance.

To act as a change agent to bring improvements to the overall plant through active support, facilitation, and leadership of Kaizen events; includes:

  1. Coaching and following up on pre-work and post-work standards.
  2. Participate in co-facilitating or facilitating events, and projects, and “just do it”.
  3. Participate in Gemba walks and coach employees on continuous improvement tools.
  4. Help update and maintain visual performance tools, including tier boards.
  5. Creating and implementing standard work while teaching/coaching leaders to do the same.

To support activities needed to incorporate lean transformation and daily management into the Plant culture:

  1. Assisting in identifying ongoing training needs.
  2. Drive Lean culture and behaviors through coaching employees and following the Legrand Way.
  3. Perform the Legrand Way RADAR to identify focus areas to improve in lean culture.
  4. Coach and advocate for the Legrand Values to all employees.

Track improvements made to ensure that changes are effective and sustainable:

  1. Audit the areas after improvements are implemented.
  2. Monitor and report on key metrics.
  3. Continually update labor standards / make spans.
  4. Provide regular updates to leadership.

Qualifications

Required Skills

Education:

  1. Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering or related technical field.
  2. Knowledge of basic lean concepts and continuous improvement tools.

Experience:

  1. One to Three years of experience supporting Lean/CI activities in an industrial, manufacturing, or engineer-to-order manufacturing environment.
  2. Experience in a world-class lean environment is preferred.
  3. An operations or Engineering background is preferred.
  4. Experience developing and maintaining engineered labor standards utilizing a predetermined motion time system is preferred.

Computer Skills:

  1. Strong capability with personal computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Must possess strong written and oral communication and presentation skills to communicate effectively with various audiences.
  2. Ability to effectively facilitate activities and discussions using a defined process.
  3. Ability to write reports, general business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  4. Ability to create standard work documents.

Interpersonal Skills:

  1. Must be a self-motivated learner.
  2. Ability to energize and motivate teams.
  3. Facilitate change from the position of an influencer.
  4. Ability to lead without direct authority.
  5. Capability to recognize conflict and take action within the scope of the role.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  1. The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection are required.
  2. Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
  3. Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
