Job summary

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) in Fairfax County, VA, seeks a Content Tutor for diagnostic medical sonography to assist students with math, sciences and writing while supporting faculty with resources.

The tutor will lead one-on-one and group sessions, help form study groups, assign software tools, and share information to promote academic improvement as needed; evenings/weekends may be required.

• Consult with faculty regarding center’s resources.

• Work closely with Tutoring Services Coordinator, academic discipline faculty and staff, and Student Services faculty and staff to provide optimal services to students.
• Provide tutoring services orientation for any willing faculty member.

Job Description

General Description: The Content Tutor: diagnostic medical sonographer cooperatively assist students with various healthcare subjects including but not limited to math, sciences, and writing (as feasible) through instruction and implementing study skills.

Duties and Tasks:

• Provide tutoring assistance to students as needed
• Assist ASC Manager in forming specialized study groups as need arises
• Assign software programs to assist students in various academic programs
• Distribute information leading to academic improvement
• Consult with faculty regarding center’s resources
• Research current list of useful Internet resources for student and faculty use

Special Assignments

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience with one-on-one and group tutoring
• Experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer

Additional Considerations:

• Tutoring and/or teaching experience of diagnostic medical sonography curricula.
• Earned credential (certificate, associate of applied science degree, bachelor’s degree) in diagnostic medical sonography or related health science field
• Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer ( RDMS ), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer ( RDCS ), or Registered Vascular Technologist ( RVT )
