Job summary

Morningstar’s Chicago-based Audience Engagement team seeks a Content Producer to translate investing stories into engaging social, video, newsletters, and other formats. You’ll collaborate with editors, designers, and researchers to craft visually engaging angles.

You’ll write concise scripts, produce on-camera segments when needed, and use data from Parse.ly, Sprinklr, and Google Analytics to optimize performance. A strong portfolio is essential.

Qualifications

The Team

Morningstar’s editorial team helps investors make informed decisions using independent research, accessible investing insights. We reach individual investors and financial advisors across Morningstar.com, newsletters, social media, video, Apple News and other platforms. We’re seeking a creative, versatile Content Producer, Audience Engagement to bring our investing coverage to life across these platforms and other emerging editorial formats.

The Role

This is a hands-on content creation role for someone who can identify the most compelling idea within a story or investing concept and translate it into the format best suited to the audience. One day, that might mean creating an Instagram carousel that explains a market trend; the next, writing a short-form video script and appearing in the video, developing the opening section of a newsletter, or collaborating with a designer on a new visual storytelling format.

The ideal candidate combines strong editorial judgment with visual creativity and an instinct for digital audiences. You should be comfortable working with investing content, translating complex ideas into clear and engaging language, and experimenting with new ways to tell stories. You should understand investing, how the markets work, and personal finance topics along with an eagerness to deepen your knowledge.

This role is part of the Audience Engagement team within Editorial and will collaborate closely with editors, writers, designers, video producers, and research analysts.

This position is based in our Chicago office. We follow a hybrid policy of 4 days onsite and 1 day remote work.

Responsibilities:

• Develop social media graphics, carousels, charts, and other visual storytelling formats using Canva and Morningstar’s design systems.
• Collaborate with Morningstar designers on more elaborate graphics, templates, and visual storytelling projects.
• Write concise, engaging scripts for short-form social and editorial videos.
• Appear in videos when appropriate, helping explain investing news and concepts in an accessible way.
• Identify stories, data points, charts, and investing concepts with strong potential for visual, social, video, or newsletter treatment.
• Translate complex financial topics into content that is clear, accurate, useful, and engaging for individual investors.
• Help manage Morningstar’s editorial presence across key social platforms, including planning, publishing, and optimizing content for each audience.
• Write and edit newsletter introductions and other original newsletter content that helps readers understand the day’s most important investing stories.
• Contribute ideas for new recurring franchises, video concepts, visual explainers, newsletter features, and platform-specific storytelling formats.
• Use audience data and platform insights to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and improve future content.
• Maintain Morningstar’s standards for editorial independence, accuracy, voice, and visual consistency across every format.
• Collaborate with Morningstar’s corporate social media team as editorial is a key contributor of content to owned corporate channels.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in digital journalism, editorial content, social media, audience development, content marketing, or a related field.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to make complex ideas approachable.
• Demonstrated experience creating content for multiple digital formats, such as social posts, graphics, newsletters, or social media video.
• Strong visual instincts and experience using Canva or a comparable design platform.
• Experience developing short-form video content and appearing on camera
• Strong editorial judgment and the ability to identify the most interesting, useful, or surprising angle within a larger story.
• Ability to use performance data from platforms like Parse.ly, Sprinklr and Google Analytics to make content decisions as well as report out content performance to stakeholders
• Genuine interest in investing, markets, and personal finance. Previous financial journalism or investing-content experience is strongly preferred but not required.
• A collaborative working style and experience partnering with writers, editors, designers, and other creative colleagues.
• The ability to manage multiple assignments, and balance daily production with longer-term creative projects.
• A portfolio demonstrating strong cross-platform content creation, including examples of visual, social, newsletter, and/or on-camera video work.

Total Cash Compensation Range

$81,325.00-119,275.00
