Job summary

Avid Core in Harrisonburg, Virginia is offering a part-time Communications Intern role to gain hands-on experience in marketing, communications, and public outreach. You will support content development, organize community engagement, and assist with digital communications for state and local initiatives.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, government, or a related field.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional and confident interacting with stakeholders, including clients and project teams.
• Basic design skills and proficiency in Canva or similar design software.

Responsibilities

• Assist with drafting and editing basic communications materials, including emails, flyers, videos, and social media content
• Contribute to the development and implementation of communications strategies and marketing plans
• Assist with organizing and staffing in-person community engagement events and activities
• Help collect, organize, and maintain project data, notes, and trackers
• Support outreach efforts by helping distribute materials and promote initiatives
• Review and proofread documents for clarity, grammar, and consistency
• Provide administrative and project coordination support as needed
• Other duties as assigned
