Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago seeks a Content Manager to develop, manage, and deliver strategic content that supports branding, engagement, and student recruitment across print, digital, and broadcast channels.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will edit, proofread, and coordinate content with designers and campus partners while ensuring brand guidelines and editorial standards are met. Evening/weekend availability may be required in this fast‑paced, diverse environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in copywriting, content development, marketing communications, or related disciplines.
  • Experience developing content for higher education, nonprofit, or similarly complex organizations preferred.
  • Knowledge of current marketing, media, digital communications, and social media trends.
  • Knowledge of content strategy and creation across multiple channels and platforms.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with high attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).

Job description

The District Marketing and Communications Department strives to create and maintain a strong, highly integrated district wide strategic marketing plan, essential to promoting the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) brand, building public awareness and a positive image of CCC, and supporting student recruitment strategies. In addition, the external communications program advances City Colleges’ strategic performance goals and leverages the coordinated resources of the Office of Institutional Advancement.

Primary Objective

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Content Manager develops, manages, and delivers strategic content that advances CCC’s marketing and communications objectives. The position creates compelling, audience‑focused content that strengthens the organization’s brand, increases engagement, and positions CCC as a higher education institution of choice. The Content Manager also serves as a copy editor and proofreader to ensure that digital, web, and print publications meet established editorial, brand, and quality standards. Performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties
  • Manages content projects from concept through delivery, collaborating with strategic leaders and stakeholders to ensure content is accurate, timely, and aligned with strategic marketing and communication goals.
  • Oversees the content development process, managing the interactions necessary to produce quality content for marketing and communications initiatives.
  • Produces content for earned media, internal, and external communications.
  • Provides high‑quality writing and editorial expertise for a diverse range of communications projects to build awareness and increase engagement between CCC and its constituents.
  • Researches, writes, and edits content for marketing communication pieces for use in print and digital marketing campaigns, including broadcast, radio, video, web, mobile, SEO, and online banner advertising.
  • Ensures content incorporates CCC’s marketing messages, adheres to CCC’s brand identity guidelines, and supports CCC’s communications and marketing goals.
  • Collaborates with graphic designers to ensure messaging is clear, concise, and impactful across all communications materials.
  • Proofreads creative pieces prior to final production, ensuring all final materials are polished, accurate, and free of editorial errors.
  • Participates in brainstorming sessions and contributes creative concepts that support effective and compelling communications materials and creative marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborates with Institutional Advancement staff and other key stakeholders to create content for use in marketing projects ranging from brochures to web pages and email campaigns.
  • Creates and manages content (including written copy, photos, and videos) for the website, social media platforms, and publications.
  • Supports the planning, promotion, and execution of public relations events and related communications activities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in copywriting, content development, marketing communications, or related disciplines, preferably in an advertising agency, marketing, communications, or higher education environment.
  • Experience developing content for higher education, nonprofit, or similarly complex organizations preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current marketing, media, digital communications, and social media trends, including emerging content formats.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of content strategy and creation, including planning, developing, editing, and optimizing content across multiple channels and platforms.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistency across multiple communications platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse environment.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
