Job description

The Content Development Manager will serve as a marketing generalist and be responsible for creating, managing, and optimizing digital and print content that aligns with the mission of the Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program (DDTP). This role involves developing accessible, engaging, and informative content across multiple platforms, including websites, newsletters, brochures, and other communication channels. The Content Development Manager will work closely with the Head of Marketing and Outreach, Marketing Manager, Project Manager Outreach Manager, and other program stakeholders to ensure that all content effectively communicates DDTP’s services and initiatives, while adhering to accessibility standards for individuals with disabilities.

Requirements
Essential Functions
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy that supports DDTP’s marketing and outreach efforts. This includes creating accessible, relevant, and engaging content for the deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing, and disabled communities.
  • Write, edit, and publish high-quality content for a variety of platforms, including websites, social media, newsletters, brochures, reports, presentations, flyers, and other communication materials. Ensure all content is clear, concise, and aligned with DDTP’s goals and branding.
  • Ensure that all content adheres to accessibility standards, such as providing alternative text for images, including captions for videos, and formatting content for screen readers. Stay up to date with accessibility best practices and ensure DDTP’s content is inclusive of all audiences.
  • Ensure that content is current, accurate, and easy to navigate for users with varying needs and abilities.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Outreach teams to align content with marketing campaigns, outreach efforts, and program goals. Collaborate with subject matter experts and other program staff to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
  • Develop and manage a content calendar that outlines the timing and distribution of content across all platforms. Coordinate with the Marketing Director to ensure timely delivery of materials for campaigns, events, and initiatives.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and digital content optimization. Ability to use basic performance information and audience feedback to support content improvements.
  • Evaluate marketing requests from other departments and work collaboratively across teams to create on-brand collateral.
  • Ensure all content adheres to DDTP’s branding guidelines, messaging, and tone of voice. Maintain consistency across all platforms, ensuring that DDTP’s mission and values are reflected in every piece of content.
  • Develop educational materials and resources that inform the public about DDTP’s services, eligibility requirements, and how to access telecommunications equipment for the deaf and disabled communities. Ensure materials are easy to understand and widely distributed.
  • Manage multiple content development projects simultaneously, from concept through completion. Prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and ensure that content is delivered on time and meets quality standards.
  • Identify opportunities to engage DDTP’s target audiences through content that resonates with their needs and interests. Utilize feedback from community members, partners, and stakeholders to improve content and better serve the program’s beneficiaries.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

To perform the essential functions of this position successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:?

  • Demonstrated experience in creating and managing a variety of content types, including written, visual, and multimedia materials.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with proficiency in AP style and disability-related language guidelines.
  • In-depth understanding of digital accessibility standards (WCAG) and best practices for creating content accessible to individuals with disabilities.
  • Proficiency in using content management systems (CMS), such as WordPress, and familiarity with graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite or Canva) for content creation.
  • Experience with SEO best practices and tools for optimizing digital content. Ability to use analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) to monitor and assess the performance of content.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Experience using project management software (e.g., SmartSheets, Trello, Asana) is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, outreach, and technical teams.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to convey complex information in a clear and accessible manner for diverse audiences, including the deaf and disabled communities.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to develop content that engages audiences, drives awareness, and supports DDTP’s mission and goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, English, Public Relations, Design or related field; or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting digital and marketing campaigns.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience supporting creative and content production, coordination, sales, advertising, customer service, public relations, or a similar field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using American Sign Language (Preferred).
Work Environment / Physical Requirements

This position is largely self-directed and requires understanding and compliance with company policies, procedures, and values. The position works in a virtual office environment utilizing a computer and standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to interact collaboratively with the team and stakeholders and communicate via phone, videophone, or text messaging. The employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The position may require travel up to 5%.
