Job summary

The City of Amarillo seeks a Welder I to weld and repair city-owned solid waste containers under supervision. You will train Utility Workers and assist in the Paint and Repair Shop, performing cutting, welding, and light maintenance as required.

Primary duties include repairing containers in shop or in the field, cleaning and painting, and handling related tools and equipment. A valid Texas driver’s license is required; equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Experience or training equivalent to completing the 8th grade; welding-related coursework preferred.
• Ability to read and follow instructions; basic map reading skills helpful.
• Valid Class C Texas Driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled acetylene cutting torch and arc welding on containers.
• Repair side loader and front-loader trash containers in shop or field.
• Clean and paint trash containers in shop or field.
• Repair fences and other property as needed.
• Supervise and train Utility Workers.
• Maintain shop area and equipment; operate forklift and container wrecker as needed.
