Job summary

Chainguard is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for Container Product Engineering to lead a fifteen-strong team building Chainguard Containers, the core product. This director-track role reports directly to the VP of Engineering for Containers, Libraries, and Repositories and blends people leadership with hands-on technical oversight.

You will own outcomes end-to-end, partner with Product, set high technical bars, and grow a team of senior staff and principal engineers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering, incl. 5+ years leading engineering teams
• Experience leading distributed, remote-first teams across NA and Europe
• Hands-on and organized with strong code-review discipline
• Strategic thinker able to plan capacity for hyper-growth
• Technical fluency with containers, OCI image format, Kubernetes, Go, and cloud infra (GCP/AWS)
• Excellent written and verbal communication

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Container Product Engineering team, setting goals and cadence
• Grow a senior-heavy team including Staff/Principal engineers and calibrate hiring
• Partner with Product to translate requirements into outcomes and projects
• Maintain high technical bar via design reviews and PR decisions
• Contribute hands-on when needed and ensure quality across codebase
• Drive AI-native tooling adoption and safe operational guardrails
• Plan work, headcount, and report status to leadership
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Guarded OS, Developer Platform, and Sales
