Job summary

JG Wentworth is seeking a meticulous Loan Underwriter to join our Lending team. The role reviews loan applications, verifies essential information, and ensures a high-quality applicant experience.

Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, you will handle employment, income, identity and payment history checks, maintain accuracy in high-volume processing, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to strengthen processes.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of experience in customer service, loan underwriting, or mortgage processing.
• Ability to verify employment, income, identity and payment history.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven detail orientation and note-taking.
• Comfort with high-volume, fast-paced environments.
• Overtime availability including weekends.

Job description

We are seeking a meticulous and customer-focused Loan Underwriter to join our Lending team at JG Wentworth. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing loan applications, verifying essential information, and ensuring a high-quality experience for our applicants. This position will be reporting to the Underwriting Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Review and verify loan applications, including employment, income, identity, payment history, bank account history, and repayment ability.
• Maintain high standards of quality while processing a large volume of loan applications.
• Communicate effectively and timely with cross functional teams
• Detecting suspicious or potential fraud risk on loan applications
• Propose new ideas and recommendations to improve departmental processes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES

• 2-5 years of experience in customer service, loan underwriting, consumer lending, personal banking, mortgage underwriting, or mortgage processing
• Familiarity with processing loans, financial statements, and income documents
• Must be able to easily articulate financial questions and document requests with processing team
• Ability to follow detailed procedures to verify applicant information and process applications
• Ability to take detailed notes and document work with attention to detail
• Strong communication, typing and writing skills
• Goal oriented and experienced with high-performance teams
• Strong time management and organization skills
• Extremely comfortable with computers and general aptitude for quickly learning new systems
• Ability to make lasting impressions, quickly build meaningful connections with people and a passion for delivering high-quality customer experience
• You thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
• Detail oriented and a passion for accuracy
• Appreciate a team mentality and have a desire to contribute to our mission as a company
