What You Will Do

The Consumer Lending Underwriter is responsible for examining, evaluating, and underwriting all Consumer Loan applications to assess risk, confirm compliance with guidelines and all regulatory requirements (both state and federal), and render a sound credit decision. The Underwriter will have the authority to approve and deny consumer loans, recommend decisions to partner credit unions on exceptions, and adhere to the agreed‑upon service level agreements (SLAs) between S3 and the partner credit unions. They will maintain regulatory compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, the USA Patriot Act, Fair Lending, and Information Security.

A Day In Your Life Might Include
  • Underwriting applications for direct and indirect lending.
  • Answering calls and maintaining an established answer percentage rate.
  • Responding to email inquiries promptly and accurately.
  • Consistently maintaining SLAs for partner credit unions.
  • Maintaining established quality control goals for all decisions.
Additional Responsibilities May Include
  • Completing daily scorecard entries.
  • Successfully collaborating with other department team members.
  • Maintaining a positive member experience with STAR Values.
  • Incorporating changes to guidelines and procedures.
  • Additional job‑related projects and duties as assigned by management.
Experience Requirements
  • 2 years of experience underwriting or in a consumer financial position.
  • Takes personal responsibility for decisions, actions, failures and overall deliverables.
  • Utilizes oral and written communication to enhance relationships across the organization.
  • Communicates information, thoughts and ideas clearly, concisely and organized.
  • Relates comfortably with people across levels, functions, culture, and geography.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
Compensation Information

Offers will be commensurate with experience and education.

  • Hourly Rate Range: $24.62 – $32.02
