Role Description
We're looking for a candidate who is currently working as a staff accountant or senior accountant and looking for a more senior role. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, financial management, and business operations. This role is unique in that you'll serve as the outsourced, part-time, or interim controller for multiple clients across various industries. You'll be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of our clients, providing expert advice, and implementing best practices to ensure financial accuracy, efficiency, and strategic alignment.
This is a hybrid position in the Houston, TX area but would consider 100% remote for the right candidate.
Salary Budget is $65,000 to $80,000 annually with excellent benefits and unlimited PTO.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Oversight & Management: Serve as the lead financial advisor for a portfolio of clients. This includes managing the month-end/year-end close processes, preparing financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow), and ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Strategic Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Partner with client leadership to develop budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans. Conduct variance analysis to identify trends and provide actionable insights to improve performance.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to streamline accounting processes, improve internal controls, and leverage technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy. This may involve migrating to new accounting software or implementing new reporting tools.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage client cash flow, including forecasting cash needs, optimizing working capital, and providing strategic recommendations to improve liquidity.
- Reporting & Communication: Prepare and present financial reports to client management and stakeholders. Translate complex financial data into clear, understandable insights that drive business decisions.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor client accounting staff (e.g., bookkeepers, accounting specialists) to ensure financial tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Ad-Hoc Projects: Lead special projects as needed, such as M&A due diligence, fundraising support, or systems implementations.
- Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with client executives and teams. Act as a key strategic partner and a reliable resource for all financial matters.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is a significant plus but not required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 1-3 years in a Senior Accountant/Staff Accountant position or similar financial management role. Experience working with multiple clients or in a consulting environment is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with various accounting software platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Xero, Sage Intacct).
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic recommendations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial audiences.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
