The Construction Yard Maintenance Laborer is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and efficient construction yard, equipment storage areas, shop facilities, and office exterior. This position supports daily yard operations by performing general labor, facility maintenance, groundskeeping, material handling, and equipment cleaning while ensuring the yard remains compliant with company safety standards.
Responsibilities & Duties
Yard & Facility Maintenance
- Perform daily inspection and maintenance of the construction yard to ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Operate a water truck to control dust throughout the yard at the beginning and end of each workday.
- Collect and dispose of trash from designated yard locations, including fuel station, welding shop, ice machine area, office, and yard receptacles.
- Sweep, rake, shovel, and remove debris, concrete, wood, scrap materials, and other waste throughout the yard.
- Trim trees, bushes, shrubs, and other landscaping to maintain a professional appearance.
- Water landscaping, plants, trees, and shrubs as assigned.
- Use leaf blowers to clean sidewalks, parking lots, office entrances, fuel station, and shop areas.
- Operate a street sweeper to remove dirt and debris from parking lots, entrances, and yard roadways.
- Power wash office mats, sidewalks, and other designated areas as needed.
- Clean office windows and exterior common areas.
Shop & Building Maintenance
- Clean and sanitize shop restrooms and industrial wash sinks.
- Sweep and mop office patio areas and common workspaces.
- Change HVAC air filters in office buildings according to maintenance schedule.
- Maintain cleanliness of wash bays by removing heavy debris and sediment.
Material Handling & Inventory Support
- Assist with maintaining inventory of construction materials including rebar, stakes, blocks, pumps, and traffic control devices.
- Cut and restock rebar as directed.
- Break down and dispose of plastic totes while separating recyclable metal cages into designated scrap bins.
- Operate forklifts and magnetic lifting equipment (after training and authorization) to collect metal debris throughout the yard.
- Assist mechanics, welders, yard personnel, and supervisors with general labor tasks as assigned.
Equipment Operation
- Safely operate company vehicles and equipment including:
- Water truck
- Street sweeper
- Forklift (certification required)
- Leaf blower
- Pressure washer
- Hand and power tools
- Perform routine inspections and report equipment maintenance needs.
General Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance of company property.
- Report safety hazards, damaged equipment, or maintenance concerns to supervision.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support yard operations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous construction yard, laborer, landscaping, or maintenance experience preferred.
- Ability to safely operate or learn to operate construction equipment.
- Forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain certification.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including Arizona heat, dust, and uneven terrain.
- Ability to safely perform repetitive manual labor for extended periods.
This position is performed primarily outdoors in an active construction yard. Employees are exposed to moving equipment, construction materials, noise, dust, and changing weather conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times in designated work areas.
