Job summary

Temcon Concrete is seeking an experienced Welder to perform welding, fabrication, repair, and maintenance on heavy construction equipment, trucks, trailers, and related components. Work is primarily at the East Yard with occasional travel to job sites in Arizona.

Responsibilities include MIG, Stick, Flux‑Core, and TIG welding, fabricating custom parts, and ensuring all welds meet quality and safety standards. Minimum 3 years’ welding experience and ability to read blueprints are required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years welding and metal fabrication experience.
  • Experience repairing heavy equipment and structural steel preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and welding specifications.
  • AWS certification preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to obtain company-approved driving privileges.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG, Stick, Flux‑Core, and TIG welding as required.
  • Repair cracked or damaged heavy equipment buckets, blades, frames, booms, trailers, and structural steel.
  • Fabricate custom components from blueprints or specifications.
  • Cut, shape, and prepare metal using torches, plasma cutters, grinders, saws.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Inspect welds for quality, strength, and compliance with specifications.
  • Layout, measuring, fitting, and assembly of fabricated parts.
  • Assist mechanics with disassembly and reassembly during repairs.
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment safely.
  • Maintain welding machines, tools, and fabrication equipment in proper working condition.
  • Keep the East Yard welding shop organized, clean, and safe.
  • Document completed repairs and communicate equipment status with supervisors.
  • Assist with emergency repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Travel to field job sites to perform welding repairs when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Welder is responsible for performing welding, fabrication, repair, and maintenance of heavy construction equipment, trucks, trailers, and related components. This position supports field operations by repairing damaged equipment, fabricating custom parts, and ensuring all welded structures meet company quality and safety standards. Work is primarily performed at the East Yard, with occasional travel to construction job sites as needed.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Perform MIG, Stick (SMAW), Flux-Core (FCAW), and TIG welding as required.
  • Repair cracked or damaged heavy equipment buckets, blades, frames, booms, trailers, and structural steel.
  • Fabricate custom components, brackets, handrails, supports, and miscellaneous metal products from blueprints or specifications.
  • Cut, shape, and prepare metal using torches, plasma cutters, grinders, saws, and other fabrication equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Inspect completed welds to ensure quality, strength, and compliance with specifications.
  • Perform layout, measuring, fitting, and assembly of fabricated parts.
  • Assist mechanics with equipment disassembly and reassembly during repairs.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience repairing heavy equipment and structural steel preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and welding specifications.
  • Ability to obtain company‑approved driving privileges.
  • AWS certification preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in MIG, Stick, Flux‑Core, and TIG welding.
  • Knowledge of structural steel fabrication and repair techniques.
  • Ability to safely use welding and fabrication equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Excellent attention to detail and workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast‑paced construction environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and work in awkward positions for extended periods.
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
  • Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to Arizona heat.
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmet, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel‑toed boots, and flame‑resistant clothing.
  • Primarily based at the East Yard fabrication and maintenance shop.
  • Occasional travel to construction job sites for field repairs.
  • Exposure to heat, sparks, fumes, dust, noise, vibration, grease, and moving equipment.
