Job description

Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking to hire a Construction Worker II. The Construction Worker II is the journey level classification in the Construction Worker series. The Construction Worker II performs a variety of skilled duties in the construction and remodeling of County buildings. Boulder County Construction is a team of dedicated individuals that are committed to producing a high-quality product for Boulder County taxpayers. The Construction team also remains flexible because work tasks may change multiple times a day and off regular business hours may need to be worked to accommodate Boulder County departments.


This is a full-time, benefited position that will work 6am-2:30pm, Monday - Friday with occasional overtime and off hours work. This position will work at the various Boulder County buildings. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).


Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.


Hiring Salary Range: $56,664.00 - $69,198.00 Annually

Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • Phone Screening: February 13th
  • First Round Interviews: February 18th
  • Reference Check: February 19th

New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month. Boulder County offers bountiful benefits, including pension contributions.

  1. Performs skilled duties in the building trades such as carpentry, steel stud framing, drywall and drywall finishing, millwork fabrication and installation, door and door hardware installation, acoustical grid installation, painting and system furniture installation.
  2. Reads and interprets construction drawings.
  3. Maintains jobsite and computer timesheet records.
  4. Lays out work and requisitions materials, as needed.
  5. Coordinates and monitors work schedules.
  6. Familiar with OSHA and safety protocols and applies them to daily activities.
  7. Performs related work, as required.
  8. May be reassigned in emergency situations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a high school diploma, or equivalent and two years of building construction experience.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL:

  • Candidates for this position will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of the procedures, materials and equipment used in commercial construction.
  • Working knowledge of safety in the operation of tools and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and Safety practices in the field of construction.
  • Ability to work effectively with other employees, agencies and the public.
  • Ability to work alternate schedules to meet project demands.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Back and Upper Body (lifting): Frequently lift from floor to waist with one hand 20-30 lb. power tools, equipment, and building materials. Occasionally lift with two hands from floor to shoulder and carry 60-80 lb. bags of mortar, demolition debris, and general building materials. At least once per day lift with a co-worker (two man lift), 100 lb. building materials such as doors, particleboards, and drywall. Occasionally use shovels, 20 lb. pry bars, and 8 lb. sledgehammers.

Hands/Arms (repetitive motion): Constant use of hammer, screwdriver and wrenches. Occasionally operate 5 lb. electric screw guns and 10 lb. circular saw.

Body Movement: Frequently climb and work from ladders, and scaffolds. Occasionally perform work while crawling, or on knees and in unusual positions.
