Description

Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking to hire a Construction Worker II. The Construction Worker II is the journeyman level classification in the Construction Worker series. The Construction Worker II performs a variety of skilled trades in the construction and remodeling of County buildings.

This is a full-time, benefited position. This position will work Monday - Friday from 6:00am - 2:30pm with occasional overtime and off hours work. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work

Hiring Salary Range: $56,664.00 - $69,204.00 Annually

Tentative Hiring Timeline

  • Phone Screening: June 18th

Examples of Duties

  • Performs skilled duties in one or more of the building trades such as carpentry, drywall, commercial framing, commercial door and hardware installation, carpet, LVT, acoustical ceiling, ceramic tile, cabinetry install, plam installation, system furniture installation and concrete forming and finishing.
  • Material handling: Loading and unloading building materials, tools and equipment
  • Excavation and demolition: Digging, backfilling and demolishing structures when applicable.
  • Equipment maintenance: Maintain tools and equipment in good condition
  • Reads and interprets construction drawings.
  • Maintains jobsite and computer timesheet records, basic computer skills
  • Lays out work and requisitions materials, as needed.
  • Familiar with OSHA, SDS and safety protocols and applies them to daily activities.
  • Performs related work, as required and may work off hours to accommodate Boulder County business operations.
  • May be reassigned in emergency situations

Education & Experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years or more in the building trades such as carpentry, drywall, commercial framing, commercial door and hardware installation, carpet, LVT, acoustical ceiling, ceramic tile, cabinetry install, plam installation, system furniture installation and concrete forming and finishing.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Working knowledge of the procedures, materials and equipment used in commercial construction Working knowledge of safety in the operation of tools and equipment.

Working knowledge of OSHA. SDS and Safety practices in the field of construction.

Ability to work effectively with other employees, agencies and the public.

Ability to work alternate schedules to meet project demands.

Physical Requirements

Back and Upper Body (lifting)

Frequently lift from floor to waist with one hand 20-30 lb. power tools, equipment, and building materials. Occasionally lift with two hands from floor to shoulder and carry 60-80 lb. bags of mortar, demolition debris, and general building materials. At least once per day lift with a co-worker (two man lift), 100 lb. building materials such as doors, particleboards, and dry wall. Occasionally use shovels, 20 lb. pry bars, and 8 lb. sledgehammers.

Hands/Arms (repetitive motion)

Constant use of hammer, screwdriver and wrenches. Occasionally operate 5 lb. electric screw guns and 10 lb. circular saw.

Body Movement

Frequently climb and work from ladders, and scaffolds. Occasionally perform work while crawling, or on knees and in unusual positions.
