Job summary

Air Products is hiring a Construction Technician for our Customer Engineering team. This field role requires 75% regional travel and base in NC or northern SC. You will install cryogenic and gas storage systems, read technical drawings, supervise crane lifts, and train customers on startup and operation.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and electrical skills, is safety-focused, and comfortable working independently at customer sites with travel by company vehicle.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; trade/technical degree preferred but not required.
  • 75% travel required across the southern US region.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record; CDL Class A preferred but not required.
  • Must pass a service/pickup truck road test and DOT physical; able to lift 50+ lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Install product storage, processing, and delivery equipment at customer sites including cryogenic tanks, pumps, and piping.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair cryogenic and gaseous storage systems.
  • Read engineering drawings, flow sheets, equipment layout, piping drawings, and electrical controls schematics.
  • Supervise crane contractors and act as Lift Supervisor for lifts up to 600 Standard Tons.
  • Provide customer training and ensure startup readiness; maintain safety standards and documentation.

The position requires a strong technical background, an ability to read technical drawings and a true focus on safety. You will be responsible for installing product storage, processing, and delivery equipment at customer sites.The candidate will be familiar with gaseous and cryogenic piping systems, valves, tanks, and equipment primarily in liquid oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide service. Excellent project skills in scope development, customer interface, and overall project management are required. Equipment selection, crane coordination including performing the role of lift supervisor, transportation scheduling, installation, startup support, contractor/maintenance tech supervision, and customer training are keys to success in this position.An independent work environment, coupled with extensive driving associated with installations, imposes a unique and challenging safety environment.
