Job summary

Air Products is seeking a Construction Technician for a residence-based role with 50-75% travel throughout the southern United States. This position primarily focuses on the startup, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of cryogenic and gaseous product storage systems.

Job description

Construction Technician – Customer Engineering

Residence‑based role requiring 50–75% travel throughout the southern United States. Preferred location: Dallas, TX. The position focuses on startup, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of cryogenic and gaseous product storage systems, primarily for liquid oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install product storage, processing, and delivery equipment at customer sites, including cryogenic tanks, pumps, and piping.
  • Maintain high safety performance during site activities and while operating company‑provided vehicles.
  • Apply safe rigging and lifting procedures; supervise crane contractors and act as Lift Supervisor for lifts up to 600 Standard Tons.
  • Perform quality brazing techniques and install pressure‑tested piping.
  • Practice safe handling of hand tools and power tools used in installation and maintenance tasks.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, flow sheets, equipment layouts, piping drawings, and electrical control schematics.
  • Report accurate costs for materials and labor.
  • Understand properties, behavior, and hazards of cryogenic and gaseous products.
  • Demonstrate basic project management skills: equipment selection, contractor supervision, system startup, operational readiness, and documentation.
  • Maintain strong customer interface and provide ongoing maintenance support as needed.

Minimum Hiring Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Trade, technical degree, or apprenticeship preferred but not required.
  • Military service considered in lieu of a technical degree.
  • Pass service/truck road test and DOT physical.
  • Travel flexibility: 75%.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Class A CDL license preferred but not required.
