Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company through WECTEC Staffing Services seeks an experienced Electrical Inspector II for a 1-year onsite assignment in Hobbs, NM. You will oversee EPC contractors, verify conformity with specs and codes, and manage electrical installation, testing and commissioning for a large solar + storage project.

You will lead safety and technical guidance, coordinate with construction managers, and ensure timely delivery with a focus on quality and compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of electrical construction experience.
• 7+ years in electrical inspection, construction management, or electrical project oversight.
• Strong experience with low-voltage and medium-voltage systems.
• Experience in utility/industrial/renewable energy or large-scale construction.
• Utility-scale solar construction experience, especially electrical discipline.
• Familiarity with NEXTracker systems and solar tracking technology.
• Experience supporting inverter installation, testing, and commissioning.

About the role

Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Inspector II to support the construction of a major renewable energy project in Hobbs, New Mexico. This project includes the construction of a two-unit solar farm with integrated battery storage, consisting of:

• Unit 1: 72 MW Solar Facility
• Unit 2: 124 MW Solar Facility

This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in the successful execution of a large-scale renewable energy project while working alongside industry-leading construction and engineering professionals. This will be an onsite role in Hobbs, NM. You will be reporting to the Manager of the site. It is a 1-year contract role.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Oversight

• Monitor and oversee electrical construction activities performed by EPC contractors.
• Verify compliance with project specifications, contract requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.
• Provide daily field oversight and inspection of electrical installations.

Technical Leadership

• Offer technical recommendations and guidance on electrical construction activities.
• Resolve installation issues to support project quality and schedule goals.
• Review electrical work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

Electrical Inspection

• Inspect low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems and installations.
• Oversee field electrical connections for solar panels and NEXTracker systems.
• Verify proper installation, wiring, testing, and commissioning activities.

Safety Leadership

• Maintain safety culture throughout the project site.
• Ensure all electrical activities comply with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and industry best practices.
• Serve as a safety advocate by identifying and mitigating potential hazards.

Collaboration & Communication

• Partner with EPC contractors, construction managers, and project stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
• Work closely with approximately 3-4 onsite construction managers and a contractor workforce that may exceed 20 personnel during peak construction phases.
• Participate in project meetings and provide progress updates on electrical construction activities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of electrical construction experience.
• 7+ years of experience in electrical inspection, construction management, or electrical project oversight.
• Strong experience with low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems.
• Experience working in utility, industrial, renewable energy, or large-scale construction environments.
• Utility-scale solar construction experience, particularly within the electrical discipline.
• Familiarity with NEXTracker systems and solar tracking technology.
• Experience supporting inverter installation, testing, and commissioning.
