Job summary

Wolverine Construction offers a paid 12-week summer internship based in Grand Rapids or southeast Michigan. You will gain hands-on experience on active jobsites, working with superintendents and trade subcontractors to deliver real construction projects while developing leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Throughout the program you’ll participate in planning meetings, observe field operations, and support safety initiatives as you document progress and help close out projects.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled student in construction management or related field.
• Seeking hands-on learning on live projects.
• Able to work on-site in Michigan.

Responsibilities

• Support daily construction operations on active jobsites with Superintendents and Field Engineers.
• Coordinate subcontractor activities to meet safety, quality, and schedule goals.
• Participate in site logistics, material deliveries, equipment coordination, and workforce planning.
• Monitor progress and communicate updates on schedule, quality, and field conditions.
• Conduct regular jobsite walks to observe activities and identify issues.
• Assist with site-specific safety initiatives and daily safety observations.
• Support project closeout activities including punch list coordination and final inspections.
• Observe weekly planning meetings and subcontractor coordination meetings.
• Identify field challenges affecting productivity, quality, schedule or safety.
• Review plans and field conditions to translate design into execution.
• Track milestones and upcoming work activities; communicate constraints.
• Participate in quality control to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Document daily construction activities through reports, photos, and logs.
• Attend owner, architect, and subcontractor meetings to understand communication processes.
• Promote Safety First culture on site and identify hazards.
• Develop communication and leadership skills to coordinate field personnel and trade partners.

Interning at Wolverine Construction

Get ready for a summer of learning, building, and making an impact. As a Wolverine Construction intern, you'll work on real projects with experienced construction professionals, gaining exposure to both the business and field sides of the industry. Based in Grand Rapids or Southeast Michigan, you'll spend time on active jobsites alongside Superintendents and trade subcontractors. It's a hands-on experience designed to help you develop practical skills, expand your network, and discover what it takes to deliver exceptional construction projects. We'll provide all the PPE you need to safely experience the action in the field.

You Will Help Lead the Jobsite:

• Partner with Superintendents and Field Engineers to support daily construction operations on active jobsites.
• Assist in coordinating subcontractor activities to help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.
• Participate in jobsite planning activities including site logistics, material deliveries, equipment coordination, and workforce planning.
• Help monitor construction progress and communicate updates regarding schedule, quality, and field conditions.
• Conduct regular jobsite walks to observe construction activities, identify potential issues, and support resolution efforts.
• Assist with site-specific safety initiatives, daily safety observations, and enforcement of jobsite safety expectations.
• Support project closeout activities including punch list coordination, final inspections, and jobsite demobilization.

You Will Develop Field Leadership Skills:

• Learn how construction projects are built from the ground up by working alongside experienced superintendents and trade professionals.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and productive jobsite environment.
• Observe and participate in weekly planning meetings, subcontractor coordination meetings, and safety meetings.
• Help identify and address field challenges that affect productivity, quality, schedule, or safety.
• Review plans, specifications, and field conditions to understand how design intent translates into construction execution.
• Track and communicate project milestones, upcoming work activities, and potential constraints.
• Participate in quality control efforts to help ensure work complies with project requirements and company standards.

You’ll Communicate and Collaborate:

• Build relationships with Superintendents, Project Managers, Field Engineers, trade partners, architects, and owners.
• Assist with documenting daily construction activities through daily reports, jobsite photos, site observations, and project logs.
• Help maintain project documentation including inspections, meeting notes, schedules, permit documents, and safety records.
• Attend owner, architect, and subcontractor meetings to gain exposure to project communication and decision-making processes.
• Promote Wolverine Construction's Safety First culture by encouraging safe work practices and helping identify jobsite hazards.
• Develop the communication and leadership skills needed to effectively coordinate field personnel and trade partners.
• Gain an understanding of how successful field leadership contributes to project outcomes, client satisfaction, and team success.
