Job summary

Scott Humphrey Corporation seeks an experienced Traveling Superintendent to oversee grocery store construction, renovations, and redevelopment projects across Florida. You will lead on-site activities from mobilization to turnover, coordinating subcontractors, schedules, safety, and quality.

Ideal candidates have direct grocery store construction experience, preferably with Publix or Aldi, and a proven ability to manage ground-up or major renovations independently while traveling statewide.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial construction superintendent experience with grocery/large-format retail projects.
• Experience leading as Lead Superintendent, managing subcontractors and field operations.
• Proven delivery of ground-up construction or major renovations from start to finish.
• Willingness and ability to travel throughout Florida for project assignments.
• Direct experience with Publix or Aldi grocery stores preferred.
• Familiarity with grocery refrigeration, MEP coordination, and store turnover.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day field operations on grocery store projects, renovations, expansions, and redevelopments.
• Manage projects from mobilization through foundations, structural, MEP, finishes, inspections, and turnover.
• Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, materials, and field personnel to meet schedules and quality.
• Oversee grocery-specific scopes including refrigeration, walk-ins, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and equipment.
• Develop short-term schedules, coordinate inspections, and flag delays early.
• Operate in active retail environments, minimizing disruption to store operations and safety.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, owners, inspectors, and design teams to resolve field issues.
• Conduct subcontractor coordination meetings, site inspections, and safety meetings per OSHA.
• Oversee punch lists, final inspections, commissioning, and project turnover.

Job description

We are partnered with a well-established Florida-based General Contractor specializing in grocery store construction, retail developments, and commercial projects throughout the Southeast. With a strong portfolio of ground-up grocery stores, renovations, and redevelopment projects, the company is seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to oversee projects throughout Florida.

The Superintendent will lead all on-site construction activities from mobilization through final turnover, managing subcontractors, schedules, safety, and quality. Ideal candidates will have direct grocery store construction experience, preferably with Publix or Aldi, and a proven ability to independently manage ground-up construction or renovation projects.

Role and Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day field operations on ground-up grocery store construction, renovations, expansions, and redevelopment projects.
• Manage projects from site mobilization, foundations, and structural construction through MEP installations, interior finishes, inspections, and turnover.
• Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, material deliveries, and field personnel to maintain project schedules and quality standards.
• Oversee grocery-specific scopes, including refrigeration systems, walk-in coolers/freezers, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, food preparation areas, and equipment installations.
• Develop and maintain short-term schedules, coordinate inspections, and identify potential delays before they impact project milestones.
• Manage construction activities in active retail environments when applicable, minimizing disruption to store operations and maintaining customer and employee safety.
• Work closely with Project Managers, owners, inspectors, and design teams to resolve field issues and maintain project progress.
• Conduct subcontractor coordination meetings, site inspections, and safety meetings while enforcing OSHA requirements.
• Oversee punch lists, final inspections, commissioning coordination, and successful project turnover.

Projects & Scope

• Ground-up grocery stores, including Publix, Aldi, Sprouts, Winn-Dixie, and similar grocery retailers.
• Grocery store renovations, expansions, demolition/rebuilds, and occupied-store remodels.
• Grocery-anchored shopping centers and retail developments.
• Projects involving refrigeration, specialized MEP systems, food service areas, and retail equipment installations.
• Fast-paced construction schedules with strict store opening deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience

• 5+ years of commercial construction Superintendent experience, with direct grocery store or comparable large-format retail construction experience.
• Experience serving as the Lead Superintendent, independently managing subcontractors and daily field operations.
• Proven experience delivering ground-up construction and/or substantial renovation projects from start to finish.
• Ability and willingness to travel throughout the state of Florida based on project assignments.
• Direct construction experience with Publix or Aldi grocery stores preferred.
• Familiarity with grocery refrigeration systems, MEP coordination, equipment installation, and store turnover requirements.

Location

• Florida – Statewide Travel
• Projects are located throughout Florida. Candidates must be comfortable traveling between project locations and maintaining an on-site presence throughout construction.
