Overview
Position: Construction Superintendent | Department: Operations | Reports to: Project Manager | Location: Huntington, WV | Employment Type & Shift: Full-time benefits eligible
Job Summary
The Superintendent holds the responsibility of overseeing daily site construction activities and managing all necessary field personnel to ensure the successful completion of the project within the designated schedule and budget. This includes upholding the highest quality standards, supervising trade and field personnel, and implementing effective construction safety practices throughout all on-site activities.
The individual in this role is required to report to a project site five days a week and should live within proximity of the project location or the surrounding area. There is potential for assignment to other project locations across the United States after the initial assignment.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, direct and supervise all aspects of the day-to-day field operations.
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with all project team members to maintain project schedule, safety, budget and quality control efforts.
- Plan and organize project work to ensure all work is in place in accordance with contract documents.
- Have working knowledge of owner contracts, subcontracts and purchase orders.
- Conduct on-site meetings with subcontractors, owners and tradesmen.
- Schedule and monitor field productivity.
- Provide mentorship and training to the project team.
- Supervise project start-up, project completion, and the entire close-out process.
- Maintain appropriate project documentation including change order logs, RFI logs, and submittal logs.
- Manage and oversee all contractual issues.
- Establish and maintain customer relationships.
- Accurate forecasting of costs for job completion.
- Ensure timely and safe completion of the project, adhering to contract documents and project budgets.
- Coordinate with the Safety Manager to ensure projects are completed in accordance with safety goals.
Mandatory Qualifications
- 10-15 years of experience with a general contracting company
- Open to traveling throughout the U.S.
- Thorough understanding of construction materials, means, methods and building systems
- Experience managing projects $20MM+
- Experience in federal sector projects
- Experience in healthcare projects
- Experience in managing change orders, writing contracts, and building schedules
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe and Bluebeam
- Ability to develop, implement, and comprehend RFIs, potential change orders, total project schedules, 3-week look-aheads, and other project documents
- Ability to manage subs in a hard-bid capacity, understanding subcontractor contract scope and holding subcontractors to their contracts
- Strong communication with home office, Owner, Subcontractors and running owner meetings
- Availability to potentially work on any shift (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) as hospital construction occurs around the clock
- Experience with Davis-Bacon/Prevailing wage or union-required projects
- Ability to pass a background check and a drug test
- A desire to stay and grow with a company that will provide mentoring and training
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in construction management or an engineering discipline
- Experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs
- Knowledge or familiarity with EM 385 and CQMC
- OSHA 30 Certification
- Experience managing projects $20MM+
