Job summary

JM Construction is seeking a Construction Superintendent to oversee all on-site activities for custom projects in San Luis Obispo County. You will ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence while coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and on-site personnel.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Construction Management (or equivalent) and at least 3 years of supervisory experience, with strong plan-reading skills and proficiency in Procore, Autodesk Build, and Smartsheet.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction supervision or related role.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and drawings.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and processes.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Familiarity with construction safety standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Proficient in project management software (e.g., Procore, Autodesk Build, Smartsheet).
  • Preferred experience with tools such as Bluebeam, BuildingConnected, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations at the construction site, ensuring work aligns with project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, and on-site personnel to maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and adherence to construction drawings.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to resolve issues and implement design changes.
  • Schedule and manage material deliveries, ensuring availability of necessary resources.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, progress reports, and other project documentation.
  • Facilitate job site meetings with subcontractors and stakeholders to review progress and address concerns.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of construction equipment and tools.
  • Manage site logistics, including access, staging, and temporary facilities.
  • Address and resolve on-site conflicts or delays promptly to keep the project on track.
  • Verify that all work complies with local building codes and regulations.
  • Assist in project closeout, including punch list completion and final inspections.
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients, inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Train and mentor on-site staff as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Compensation

  • Competitive hourly wage (non-exempt, overtime eligible at 1.5x for hours over 8/day or 40/week, 2x for hours over 12/day per California Labor Code 510) or salary (exempt, minimum $66,560/year), based on experience.
  • Benefits: Company insurance plan, Retirement Plan with company matching, paid time off (including minimum 3 days paid sick leave per California Labor Code 246), workers’ compensation coverage per Labor Code 3700.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM.
