Job summary

Cobalt Recruitment (Long Island / New York Metro) seeks an experienced Superintendent to lead on-site operations for high-profile commercial interiors and retail projects. You will manage day-to-day field activities, coordinate subs and schedules, and ensure safety and quality on fast-track builds.

The role requires a strong background in retail construction, the ability to read drawings, and proactive problem-solving. Travel nationwide is required and OSHA 30 certification is expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years in commercial construction supervision.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day field operations from mobilization to turnover.

• Ensure high-end finishes, millwork, fixtures, lighting on site.
• Maintain OSHA-compliant, clean, safe jobsite.
• Prepare daily reports, progress photos, punch lists, and closeout.
• Travel nationally as required.

The position offers the opportunity to work on high-profile projects, interact directly with clients and design teams, and take significant ownership of project execution in the field.

Position Overview

The Superintendent will serve as the primary on-site representative, taking ownership of day-to-day field operations, subcontractor coordination, schedule execution, quality, safety, and client expectations.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day field operations from mobilization through project completion and turnover.
• Serve as the primary on-site representative and maintain accountability for project execution.
• Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel.
• Develop and maintain short-term and overall project schedules in coordination with the Project Manager.
• Oversee commercial interior build-outs, retail renovations, tenant improvements, and store rollouts.
• Review drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals; identify conflicts and coordinate resolutions.
• Coordinate MEP trades and ensure proper sequencing with architectural and finish work.
• Oversee installation of high-end finishes, architectural millwork, fixtures, lighting, and specialty retail elements.
• Coordinate inspections, permits, deliveries, material staging, and site logistics.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite in accordance with OSHA standards.
• Conduct quality-control inspections and ensure work is completed according to plans and specifications.
• Identify potential schedule delays and field issues and proactively develop solutions.
• Maintain daily reports, progress documentation, photographs, punch lists, and other project records.
• Coordinate punch-list completion and final closeout activities.
• Communicate effectively with owners, clients, architects, consultants, Project Managers, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Maintain strong client relationships and represent the company professionally on-site.
• Support projects involving night shifts, phased construction, accelerated schedules, or occupied spaces.
• Travel nationally as required based on project assignments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial construction Superintendent experience
• Strong background in retail construction, commercial interiors, tenant improvements
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and MEP drawings.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing and subcontractor coordination.
• Experience working in fast-track environments with demanding schedules.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
• Proficiency with construction management and scheduling software is a plus.
• OSHA 30 certification required.
• Ability and willingness to travel nationally for project assignments.
