Job summary

Baxter & Woodman in Marengo, IL is seeking a Construction - Stewardship II in our Natural Resources department. This full-time role offers 40+ hours per week depending on weather and workload.

The successful candidate will read engineering plans, estimate bids, and oversee field staff and subcontractors while delivering projects for municipalities, subdivisions, and private clients. Travel across Chicagoland and surrounding areas is expected.

Qualifications

• 3+ years construction experience.
• Able to read engineering plans and assist in cost estimates for bids.
• Willing to travel across Chicagoland, Central Illinois, and Northwest Indiana.
• Must have Class C CDL or be able to obtain it within 3 months of start.
• capable of moving 35-50 lbs on a regular basis.
• Must be 18 years old with a valid Driver’s License.

About The Role, Your Impact

Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a Construction - Stewardship II in our Natural Resources department. We are seeking qualified applicants for the Marengo, IL area for full-time work. We are looking at 40 plus hours a week depending on weather and workload.

What Your Day-to-day Will Look Like

• Independently performs construction work that could include but not limited to natural restoration, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water service.
• Oversee Natural Resource staff assisting with construction activities.
• Oversee of subcontractors on construction sites.
• This work will be done for municipalities, subdivisions, and private clients.
• Knowledge of native ecosystems a plus.
• Work well with others.

Education/Certification Requirements

• Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources or related field preferred.

Must-haves, What You Will Bring

• Must have 3+ years of construction experience.
• Must be able to read a set of engineering plans and assist in putting together cost estimates for bids.
• Ability to travel throughout the Chicagoland, Central Illinois, and Northwest Indiana areas (own transportation).
• Candidates must be willing and able to travel on short notice and stay overnight as needed.
• Ability to take direction from a manager.
• Strong verbal skills.
• Must be 18 years old with a valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to move and carry 35-50 lbs. on a regular basis.
• Have a Class C CDL for State of Illinois or be able to attain it within 3 months of start.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prescribe Burn Certification of S130 & S190 preferred.
• Experience with tree and brush removal within native ecosystems preferred.
• Be able operate a skid steer and excavator preferred.

Compensation

The pay range for this role is $28.00-$38.00 per hour. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
