About the Role

Our client is seeking a vigilant and proactive Construction Safety Officer to ensure a safe working environment on their construction sites in Upington, Northern Cape. This role is critical in maintaining compliance with all health and safety regulations, implementing safety policies, and promoting a strong safety culture among all personnel. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting site inspections, identifying hazards, developing risk assessments, and delivering safety training. This is a vital position for ensuring the well-being of workers and the successful, accident-free completion of projects in Upington area.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety plans and procedures on construction sites.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Prepare and deliver safety training programs and toolbox talks for all site personnel.
• Maintain accurate safety records, including incident reports, inspection logs, and training documentation.
• Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all workers.
• Advise management on health and safety matters and recommend improvements.
• Liaise with external regulatory bodies and ensure compliance with all legal requirements.
• Promote a positive safety culture throughout the project site.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH) is essential.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry.
• Thorough knowledge of South African health and safety legislation (e.g., OHS Act, Construction Regulations).
• Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigations.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively on-site and manage safety for multiple crews.
• First Aid certification is advantageous.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Upington, Northern Cape.
