Job summary

Ascendion is seeking a Construction Safety Manager to lead EHS initiatives on a major construction project in the South Hill, VA area. You will serve as the primary EHS contact, develop site safety plans, and drive a culture of safety across workers and subcontractors.

The role requires 5–10 years in construction safety and 3–5 years in leadership, with responsibilities spanning risk assessments, JHAs, SWMS, and high‑risk activity controls. OSHA 30/CSO/CSMP preferred.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of construction safety experience.
  • 3–5 years in a supervisory or safety leadership role.
  • Experience managing large capital construction projects, multiple subcontractors, and high‑risk construction activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all project safety, health, and environmental initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary EHS point of contact for the construction project.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific safety plans.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and accountability throughout the project.
  • Compliance Management: Ensure compliance with OSHA, local regulations, client requirements, and company policies.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain required permits and safety documentation.
  • Risk Assessment and Hazard Control: Identify workplace hazards and evaluate risks.
  • Develop Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
  • Implement controls for high-risk activities (Fall protection, Confined space, LOTO, Electrical safety, Crane/Rigging, Excavation).

Summary:
  • Based on our construction EHS policy, a Construction Site EHS Leader (Safety Manager) serves as the lead safety point of contact for a project, oversees EHS programs, ensures HRA management, conducts audits, investigates incidents, communicates lessons learned, provides technical guidance, develops safety metrics, and leads subcontractor EHS professionals.
  • Experience in HRA management (Level 1, Level2 and Level 3), electrical safety, energy isolation, confined space management, commissioning safety, contractor management, and steel erection.
