Job summary

Turner Construction Company is seeking a Project Safety Assistant for the Northern California Sacramento area. The role supports enforcement of company EH&S policies and risk management procedures on construction projects, and helps implement Building L.I.F.E.

across site teams. Responsibilities include assisting with safety training, reviewing subcontractor safety programs, promoting safe practices, and maintaining safety records, JHAs, PTPS, and audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or related field with 1 year safety experience.
• Basic knowledge of safety/environmental principles and regulations.
• Familiar with Federal, State, and local Environmental Health & Safety regulations.
• Able to identify safety exposures and propose corrective actions.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills; teamwork and leadership.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and data entry; strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist with training for safe work practices and implementing EH&S programs for construction projects.
• Assist with reviewing subcontractor safety programs for compliance with policies and regulations.
• Assist with reviewing subcontractors' training per OSHA standards.
• Promote safe work practices and conditions in accordance with regulations and owner requirements.
• Assist with administering the drug screening program per requirements.
• Coordinate preconstruction meetings with supervision.
• Conduct worker orientation programs and administer participation records.
• Gather Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for contractors as required.
• Maintain safety records (PTPs, JHAs, training records, OSHA logs, MSDS, etc.).
• Conduct safety meetings and issue minutes; maintain subcontractor toolbox meeting records.
• Perform safety site audits and inspections; issue corrective-action reports.
• Identify and report safety violations, prioritizing imminent danger scenarios.
