Posting Description

Who We Are

NFP, an Aon company, is a leading insurance broker and consultant providing property and casualty, employee benefits, wealth management and retirement solutions. We combine specialized expertise, strong carrier relationships and a people-first culture to help clients address complex risk and business challenges. NFP has been recognized by Business Insurance as a Best Place to Work in Insurance for ten consecutive years.

About NFP’s Safety & Risk Consulting (SRC)

NFP’s Safety & Risk Consulting (SRC) practice is a national team of safety, loss control and risk management professionals who support clients across industries and geographies. The team provides practical, client-specific consulting focused on protecting people, strengthening operations, reducing loss drivers and improving risk quality. SRC works collaboratively with clients, NFP account teams, producers, insurance carriers and other technical specialists to connect field-based risk improvement with broader insurance and business objectives.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Construction Safety Consultant to provide hands‑on safety and risk control consulting to construction clients primarily throughout the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut Tri‑State area, while also supporting national clients and projects. The consultant will evaluate jobsite and operational exposures, develop practical risk improvement strategies, deliver training, and serve as a technical resource to client leadership, field teams, NFP colleagues and insurance partners.

This is a full‑time, field‑based position with remote flexibility when not traveling. Approximately 60% travel is expected, including local jobsite travel and periodic overnight national travel. The ideal candidate will live in or near the New York City metropolitan area with convenient access to a major airport.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct construction jobsite safety assessments, loss control surveys and management-system reviews for general contractors, owners, developers and trade contractors.

  • Evaluate high-hazard construction exposures and controls, including falls, scaffolds, ladders, excavation and trenching, cranes and rigging, electrical work, hot work, confined spaces, temporary structures, material handling, public protection and contractor management.

  • Review and help strengthen corporate and project-specific safety programs, site safety plans, emergency action plans, job hazard analyses, pre-task plans, subcontractor controls and written compliance programs.

  • Analyze loss runs, incident trends, experience modifiers and other available risk data to identify loss drivers, prioritize resources and develop measurable service plans.

  • Perform incident and near‑miss reviews, support root‑cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions. This role does not replace the client’s legal, claims or regulatory counsel.

  • Deliver practical training, executive briefings, supervisor coaching and toolbox-style education on construction safety, regulatory compliance and risk improvement topics.

  • Prepare clear, timely reports that document observations, identify priority hazards, recommend corrective actions and communicate risk implications to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

  • Partner with NFP producers, account teams, claims professionals and carrier risk control representatives to support client stewardship, renewal strategy, prospect evaluations and coordinated service delivery, including Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) and Contractor Controlled Insurance Program (CCIP) safety and loss‑control activities.

  • Support OCIP and CCIP program activities, including preconstruction safety reviews, contractor and subcontractor safety qualification, project-specific safety planning, orientation and training coordination, site audits, loss‑trend review, corrective‑action tracking, stewardship reporting and collaboration with program sponsors, administrators, carriers and claims partners.

  • Participate in client meetings and business development activities as a construction safety subject matter resource, including service‑plan development and presentation of findings to senior leadership.

  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal, state and local requirements and accepted industry practices, including OSHA construction standards and relevant New York City construction and local regulations safety requirements.

  • Manage multiple client engagements independently, document activity in designated systems and consistently meet agreed timelines and service expectations.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of progressive construction safety, loss control or construction risk consulting experience, with substantial field‑based jobsite experience.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting Owner Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIPs) and Contractor Controlled Insurance Programs (CCIPs), including project safety oversight, contractor coordination, loss‑control activities and program reporting.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in occupational safety, construction management, engineering, risk management or a related subject area, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • OSHA 510, Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry.

  • Completion of applicable New York City Department of Buildings Site Safety Training (SST) requirements and other NYC construction safety training required for the consultant’s assigned project duties.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and the ability to interpret and apply applicable federal, state and local construction safety requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify hazards, evaluate controls, analyze incidents and losses, and translate findings into practical recommendations.

  • Strong written, presentation, facilitation and client relationship skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with executives, project managers, superintendents, safety professionals and craft employees.

  • Valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record consistent with company requirements, and the ability to drive to client and project locations and travel approximately 60%, including local travel and overnight national travel.

  • Ability to perform field‑based construction work while wearing required safety PPE. The position requires walking active jobsites; climbing stairs and ladders; accessing elevated, confined, uneven or unfinished work areas; standing for extended periods; bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching; and lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort using web‑based safety, risk control and client‑management platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST). Associate Safety Professional (ASP) may be considered for candidates actively progressing toward the CSP.

  • OSHA 500 authorized trainer status is strongly preferred for candidates who will deliver OSHA Outreach training.

  • Experience supporting complex commercial, infrastructure, civil, high‑rise, healthcare, industrial or large general‑contractor construction programs.

  • Experience within a property and casualty insurance carrier, insurance brokerage, risk consulting firm or owner‑controlled/contractor‑controlled insurance program environment.

  • Familiarity with workers’ compensation, general liability, auto/fleet and builders risk loss drivers, as well as insurance‑related stewardship and carrier risk control processes.

  • Bilingual communication skills, particularly English and Spanish, are a plus.
