Job summary

Kokosing is actively seeking a Safety Co-op to support project teams in promoting and maintaining a safe work environment. You will work with safety professionals on regulatory compliance, hazard recognition, safety training, and incident prevention, gaining hands-on experience in construction safety practices.

The role offers exposure to multiple projects across our operating geography, including Michigan, Indiana, and surrounding states.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in one of the listed fields.
• Open to all student levels (freshman–senior).
• Safety, construction, mining, or manufacturing interest is preferred.
• Strong interest in workplace safety and learning-oriented.”

Responsibilities

• Assist Safety Specialists and project teams with safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning.
• Conduct jobsite walkthroughs to identify hazards and improvement opportunities.
• Document safety inspections, observations, audits, and corrective actions.
• Support safety plans, site safety docs, and training records.
• Prepare and distribute safety communications and updates.
• Observe field operations and how safety applies to construction and plant activities.
• Assist with incident reporting and root-cause analysis processes.
• Support onboarding and orientation on safety requirements.
• Collaborate with project teams to promote a positive safety culture.
• Maintain records and data related to safety performance and compliance.
• Complete special projects as assigned.
