Job summary

Detroit Water and Sewerage Department seeks an Inspector I to oversee contractor construction services for DWSD projects and ensure adherence to plans, specifications, and safety standards. Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• EPA Asbestos Abatement Supervisor Certification preferred.
• EPA Lead Abatement Certification preferred.
• MIOSHA Confined Space Certification preferred.
• MDEQ Soil Erosion & Soil Control Certification preferred.
• HAZWOPER or safety training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, blueprints, sketches and specs and identify factors affecting construction.
• Ensure quality control through inspection and materials testing.
• Prepare daily/weekly logs and reports for accounting and historical purposes.
• Advise engineer on corrections to defects to avoid non-compliance.
• Attend construction meetings and monitor schedules for contract payments.
• Enforce safety regulations on all sites and wear PPE.
• Provide on‑the‑job training and coordinate with teams.
