Job summary

The City of New York Department of Sanitation is seeking a Construction Project Manager to oversee landfill projects, manage contracts, ensure regulatory compliance, and coordinate with stakeholders across multiple sites in NYC.

The candidate should have relevant education/experience in construction management and may hold professional licensure; a NY driver license is required for appointment. This is a full-time on-site role within City operations.

Qualifications

• Four-year high school diploma or educational equivalent and five years of full-time experience managing or inspecting construction projects with total cost ≥ $300,000 per year.
• One year of experience plus a bachelor’s degree in engineering/architecture/construction fields.
• One year of experience plus a professional engineering license or equivalent.
• Alternative combination: 4-year diploma plus two years of experience and the education in 2 above totaling five years.

Responsibilities

• Manage consultant contracts for Landfill Post Closure Care Plan to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Perform landfill site inspections for regulatory compliance of post-closure items.
• Oversee Environmental Monitoring Plan activities including surface water, groundwater, drainage, and hydraulic monitoring.
• Oversee mowing and trimming work across landfill sites.
• Assist with oversight of composting and resource recovery projects.
• Handle procurement: RFPs, scope, schedules, cost estimates, MWBE compliance, extensions.
• Monitor consultant/contractor work and payment requisitions to meet contract requirements and budgets.
• Coordinate with stakeholders on status, changes, issues, and resolutions.

Education

Professional engineer/license (PE/Architect/Landscape Architect)
