The Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing large-scale data center and mission-critical construction projects from preconstruction through commissioning. This role requires strong technical knowledge of high-density mechanical and electrical systems, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
The Project Manager ensures every project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and operational reliability.
Oversee full lifecycle delivery of data center projects, including design coordination, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and cost forecasts.
Manage procurement of long-lead equipment such as switchgear, UPS systems, chillers, and generators.
Coordinate closely with field teams, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure seamless project execution.
Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to avoid schedule or cost overruns.
Serve as the main point of contact for clients, design partners, and consultants.
Lead progress meetings and ensure clear communication between internal and external stakeholders.
Provide transparent reporting on schedule, budget, and change management.
Build strong, lasting relationships with hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise clients.
Establish project budgets and manage cost tracking from preconstruction through closeout.
Review and approve subcontractor pay applications, purchase orders, and change orders.
Support financial forecasting and maintain accurate reporting in collaboration with senior leadership.
Ensure all project activities comply with OSHA standards, company safety policies, and data-center-specific security protocols.
Oversee QA/QC processes and commissioning plans to verify systems meet operational requirements.
Support integrated systems testing (IST) and turnover documentation to ensure readiness for occupancy.
Lead and mentor Assistant Project Managers, Engineers, and field staff to ensure consistent performance.
Promote collaboration with superintendents and field leadership to align on logistics and work sequencing.
Maintain a positive, accountable, and safety-first team culture.
Oversee project closeout, including punch lists, final inspections, as-built documentation, and training sessions.
Coordinate turnover packages, O&M manuals, and warranty information for owner acceptance.
Conduct lessons-learned reviews to improve future performance.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of commercial or industrial construction experience, with 5+ years in mission-critical or data center projects.
Proven record managing projects $25M–$100M+.
Expertise in MEP systems, electrical redundancy (N, N+1, 2N), chilled water, and controls.
Experience with design-build or fast-track delivery models.
Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, and MS Office Suite.
Preferred:
Experience with Tier III/Tier IV data center projects (Uptime Institute standards).
Understanding of commissioning Level 1–5 testing procedures.
PMP or CCM certification a plus.
Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
Deep understanding of mission-critical infrastructure systems.
Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
Analytical mindset with the ability to identify risks early.
Results-driven approach with commitment to quality and precision.
Projects located across the southeastern US; travel to regional project sites required.
Work involves both office and field environments, including active data center job sites under strict security controls.
