Job summary

MacDonald-Bedford LLC invites applications for a Construction Project Engineer (Mid to Senior) in Honolulu, HI. The role involves engineering and construction oversight across new construction, renovations, and modernization, supporting MILCON and large facility projects, SRM, and civil improvements.

Travel within the Pacific Region and collaboration with architects, engineers, and stakeholders are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited University.
  • Senior Level requires a minimum of ten years of technical/construction experience or three years of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers policy knowledge.
  • Mid Level requires a minimum of five years of technical/construction experience or one year of USACE policy knowledge.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of LEED standards, ADA accessibility, and sustainable design principles.

Responsibilities

  • Provide construction management services for pre-construction award functions, QA, and contract administration.
  • Prepare and finalize pre-award, QA, and contract administration processes for Government Construction Contracts.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and stakeholders to develop solutions across phases and disciplines.
  • Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and input environmental impact evaluations.
  • Prepare design drawings, documents, and specifications using AutoCAD, Revit, BIM.
  • Ensure designs comply with building codes, regulations, sustainability standards, and ADA guidelines.
  • Coordinate design charrettes and value engineering processes.
  • Provide input during construction including RFI responses and shop drawing reviews.
  • Perform energy modeling and sustainability analyses where applicable.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and federal agencies.
  • Prepare design reports, calculations, and permitting documentation.

Construction Project Engineer (Mid to Senior)

Located in Honolulu, HI.

Description

MacDonald-Bedford LLC is seeking a detail-oriented, multi-skill and self-starting Project Engineer (Mid to Senior Level) to support a variety of federal, institutional, and infrastructure design and construction projects. This role focuses on providing engineering and construction oversight, ensuring the successful delivery of new construction, renovation, and modernization efforts. Assignments may include support for major construction (MILCON or large facility projects), sustainment and restoration (SRM or repair/renovation projects), and civil/infrastructure improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide construction management services (CMS) for pre-construction award functions, quality assurance and contract administration.
  • Expertise in preparing and finalizing pre-award, quality assurance and contract administration processes for Government Construction Contracts.
  • Citizenship of the United States.
  • Must be able to travel; capable of performing off-island travel within the Pacific Region for periods up to 1 year.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project stakeholders to develop solutions for technical and logistical problems across all phases and disciplines.
  • Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and provide input to environmental impact evaluations.
  • Prepare and review construction drawings, design documents, and technical specifications using AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and other platforms.
  • Ensure designs comply with building codes, federal and local regulations, sustainability standards, and ADA guidelines.
  • Support design charrettes, coordination meetings, and value engineering processes.
  • Provide technical input during construction, including shop drawing reviews, RFI responses, and on-site inspections.
  • Conduct energy modeling, performance simulations, and sustainability analyses (where applicable).
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including contractors and federal agencies, to resolve design and construction challenges.
  • Prepare design reports, calculations, and documentation to support permitting and client presentations.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited University.
  • For Senior Level – A minimum of ten (10) years of technical/construction experience or three (3) years of working knowledge of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers policies, procedures, processes, and regulations.
  • For Mid-Level – A minimum of five (5) years of technical/construction experience or one (1) year of working knowledge of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers policies, procedures, processes, and regulations.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM platforms, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, structural systems, MEP integration, and code compliance.
  • Knowledge of LEED standards, ADA accessibility, and sustainable design principles.
  • Ability to coordinate complex multidisciplinary design efforts and support projects from concept through construction.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Architecture Registration or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Prior experience supporting federal government projects (e.g., USACE, GSA, VA).
  • Experience with Procore, Primavera P6, or other project management tools.
  • Certification in LEED and knowledge of Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (ATFP) requirements.
