Job summary

Mortenson Construction in Frederick, Maryland is seeking an experienced Project Engineer II to support project teams and resolve field coordination issues with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

The role focuses on interpreting plans, managing permits and submittals, tracking quality and safety, and mentoring field engineers to ensure on-time, compliant project delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering or Construction Management.
• Minimum of three years related construction experience.
• Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks.
• Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
• Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons.
• Implement the pre-construction quality plan and manage testing and inspection processes.
• Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fee payments and recurring expenses.
• Develop and maintain Material Tracking List, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, and Non-Conformance Report.
• Manage, create, and distribute contract documents; establish handling procedures for electronic documents (RFIs, correspondence).
• Manage submittals: set up register, obtain customer/architect approval, prepare transmittal forms, coordinate packaging, review, and processing.
• Expedite submittals to align with project schedule; communicate submittal process details to subcontractors and suppliers.
• Incorporate processes and procedures for project closeout phase; define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as-built construction documents.
• Mentor, manage, and evaluate field engineers; determine alternative work methods as needed.
• Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members; maintain schedule of timelines and ensure completion.
