Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Project Engineer II in Frederick, Maryland. The ideal candidate will review, analyze, manage, and resolve field coordination issues with project team members while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, plus at least three years of related construction experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management.
• Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks.
• Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Current driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons.
• Implement the pre-construction quality plan and manage testing and inspection processes.
• Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fee payments and recurring expenses.
• Develop and maintain Material Tracking List, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, and Non-Conformance Report.
• Manage, create, and distribute contract documents; establish handling procedures for electronic documents (RFIs, correspondence).
• Manage submittals: set up register, obtain customer/architect approval, prepare transmittal forms, coordinate packaging, review, and processing.
• Expedite submittals to align with project schedule; communicate submittal process details to subcontractors and suppliers.
• Incorporate processes and procedures for project closeout phase; define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as-built construction documents.
• Mentor, manage, and evaluate field engineers; determine alternative work methods as needed.
• Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members; maintain schedule of timelines and ensure completion.
